Meet the team! Transfer Coordinator & Marketing Assistant: George Gunn

My name is George Gunn, and I will be returning to the role of Marketing Assistant and Airport Transfer Co-Ordinator this year. I am an undergraduate student in my final year studying Music at the University of Southampton. Whilst at university, I help to manage the student bar and in my spare time enjoy SCUBA diving as a BSAC qualified Sports Diver. I grew up locally to Whitgift school and had several friends who attended the school during term time. I have always held the school in the highest regard and am thrilled to be working here again this summer.

My role during the summer school is to create social media posts and promotional photos and videos so that you can all see what is happening during the summer school each day. I am also a capable drone pilot, and you can see some of my work from last year scattered throughout the school’s recent promotional media. It is also my responsibility to create weekly videos for the students, showcasing the events of the week which was very well received by the students last year. You will be able to find these videos on the Whitgift YouTube channel each week during the summer school so that you can keep up with what is going on each week at the school!

As Airport Transfer Co-Ordinator, it is also my responsibility to ensure that all arriving students are met at the airport by Whitgift Summer School staff and that students departing the school are safely dropped off at their check in or handed over to airline chaperones for their journey home. The importance of this job cannot be overstated, and we strive to place the safety and comfort of our students above all else. Working at Whitgift Summer School last summer was an experience unlike anything I have experienced before. The sense of community amongst the students and staff is incredible and getting to be a part of that is a real privilege. One of my favourite parts of each new week was getting to meet the new students and seeing how the students already at the summer school went out of their way to make the new arrivals feel included and to take time to show them around the school. One of my most prominent memories is of a group of students waiting at the door on arrivals day, excitedly asking us when new students would be arriving so that they could show them around the school. This struck me as incredibly kind and empathetic behaviour and really brought into focus how strong the sense of community is between the students at the summer school. I can’t wait see how this new year takes Whitgift Summer School to new heights and share this with you all through our social media.
