Meet the team! Senior Activity Leader, Ms Julia Barrat

"No Man is an Island” – sure, John Donne was the one who said it first, but I will say it again: we humans are all connected, and what better way to prove it than to come and spend the summer getting to know your peers from around the world?

The journey to the summer school boarding house
I have been part of the Whitgift community for three years now as a French language assistant and a resident boarding tutor, and I am very excited to get involved further by joining the summer school team. I have found a wonderful home away from home in Whitgift, and I know you will too.

Passion for languages and the UK
As an aspiring Modern Foreign Languages teacher, I am driven by my passion for languages and am constantly looking to improve my linguistic skills, which is why I left Paris and moved to the United Kingdom four years ago. I was only meant to live here for one year, but then decided to stay… What can I say, England grows on you – but you will find that out for yourself soon enough!

My role at this year's summer school
This summer, you might see me around school reading a book, practising Spanish, or playing my ukulele (poorly, but with great enthusiasm), but most importantly I am looking forward to taking on my role as a Senior Activity Leader and Student Hosts Coordinator.

English-speaking students at the summer school
Who are the Student Hosts, you ask? Well, surely you did not think you would only improve your English by going to class, did you? Understandable mistake, it is called Whitgift Summer School after all, but let’s not forget about the summer part too quickly: summer school is fun, and our Student Hosts are here to make sure of that. They are a lovely bunch of students your age who go to Whitgift and Old Palace all year round, and they will be in school with you most of the day to chat over lunch and dinner, take part in the afternoon activities, play games, and show you what a good time we can have in London together. I am delighted to be the one to look after them (and you!) as I know it means that I will get to see a lot of beautiful international friendships form and develop.

I look forward to meeting you all, roll on summer!
