At Whitgift, most A Level students will study four subjects to begin with in the first year, selected from an extensive list of subject options. In practice, the majority of students will continue with three subjects in the Upper Sixth, although a significant number do complete four.

In addition to their chosen subjects, A Level students also study Ideatum (PSHEE) in the Lower Sixth, General Studies throughout the Sixth Form and have one Games afternoon a week. We also encourage students to complete an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) either alongside their four A Levels or as a replacement for their fourth should they drop on in the Lower Sixth; this exciting qualification gives students the opportunity to write a dissertation, conduct an investigation or produce an artefact on a topic which is entirely of their own choosing.

These additional elements add considerable breadth as well as depth to the academic experience of our A Level students.  In addition, any student studying three A Levels will also contribute to our Community Service project with local partner primary schools, and all students have the opportunity to support our Primary Project in school.
