News and up to date information on all things related to Whitgift Summer School
Whitgift, based in South London, is one of the most prestigious schools in the UK that runs academic courses during the summer months: its very own IB preparation course, an academic English language course for seniors (14-16) and a UK boarding preparation style course for juniors (11-13). These courses are open to international students from all over the world and run in the months of July and August. In 2021, Whitgift Summer School will be running entirely online due to the ongoing uncertainty with regards to Covid-19.
Our courses have been carefully designed in order to ensure an enriching and collaborative learning experience is had by everyone. When they return to school to begin their new academic year in their homecountry, students will be able to draw on their summer school knowledge, meaning they will be better prepared to tackle the academic challenges they will inevitably face. The main aim of our online summer programme is to increase students' confidence and ensure they have the belief to achieve far beyond what they thought was possible. When they return to school in Autumn 2021, students will feel bette prepared and confident in their abilities.
Pre-IB (14-16 years of age)
Designed by Whitgift’s Director of IB, this course is for those girls and boys who plan to start the IB diploma soon. With introductions to critical thinking skills and development in English, Maths and Science as well as elements of CAS and TOK embedded into the course, students will have all the bases covered so that on completion of this 3-week course they will feel inspired, fully prepared and confident to start their International Baccalaureate Diploma.
Academic Skills in English (14-16 years of age)
Created with older high-school students in mind, this course focuses on developing and supporting pupils who need that extra boost with their academic English. Led by specialist EAP (English for Academic Purposes) teachers and designed by EAL teachers at Whitgift School, this intensive course seeks to challenge and inspire students who are preparing, or currently studying, for their A-Levels/IB or iGCSE/GCSEs. It would also be a highly beneficial course for students preparing for IELTS/B2 First certificates.
English for International Education (11-13)
Attending a new school is an exciting time for students: making new friends, beginning a new subject, learning a new musical instrument or trying out a different sport. However, it can also be a daunting experience, especially when English is not your first language and you are about to attend an English-speaking school! Our English for Education Course is the ideal preparation course for younger students who will need to quickly adapt to a new linguistic setting. This course will provide the necessary introductory academic English skills and cultural knowledge that the students will greatly benefit from in their new environment.
